The Rochelle Little League 10U Baseball All-Stars went 1-2 at the Illinois Little League Elgin Sub-State tournament this past weekend. Rochelle took down Moline 9-7 on Friday before falling 11-4 against Peru on Saturday and losing 14-0 to Huntley on Sunday.

Rochelle finishes 1-2 with win over Moline

ELGIN — The Rochelle Little League 10U Baseball All-Stars went 1-2 at the Illinois Little League Elgin Sub-State tournament this past weekend. Rochelle took down Moline 9-7 on Friday before falling 11-4 against Peru on Saturday and losing 14-0 to Huntley on Sunday.

Moline

Trailing 1-0 after Moline notched an RBI single in the top of the first inning, Rochelle tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when Vaughn Manning singled and scored on an RBI single from Quentin Ansteth. Rochelle surged ahead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring six runs to take a 7-1 lead. Nolan Zick walked and scored on an RBI single by Maddex Jackson. Jackson then stole home before Teddy Millard’s RBI single plated Jasper Macklin.

With Rochelle ahead 4-1, Ansteth sent an RBI single into right field to score Vaughn Manning. Steel Manning followed with an RBI single two batters later, plating Ansteth to make it a 6-1 game. Zick’s RBI double brought Bentley Svela home for Rochelle’s final second-inning run. Moline answered with three runs on one triple and two singles in the top of the third inning.

Leading 7-4, Rochelle scratched two runs in the bottom of the third inning after Vaughn Manning scored Sergio Cervantez on an RBI groundout and Ansteth clobbered an RBI triple to score Millard. Moline posted three runs on a double and two walks in the top of the fourth inning. Svela threw the first two innings for Rochelle, striking out four batters. Ansteth struck out six batters in three innings of relief before Vaughn Manning closed the game with one inning.

Peru

Peru went ahead 1-0 with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. Rochelle then took a 3-1 lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Vaughn Manning pulled an RBI double to right that scored Carson Smith and Jasper Macklin before Teddy Millard stole home. A single and an RBI double to left field brought one Peru run home in the top of the third inning.

Sergio Cervantez doubled and stole home to give Rochelle a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Peru exploded for seven runs on two triples, two doubles, two singles and two walks in the top of the fifth inning. Peru then sealed its win with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Millard finished with one strikeout in four innings pitched, while Manning added two strikeouts.

Huntley

Vaughn Manning singled and recorded Rochelle’s lone hit in the loss against Huntley. Leading 1-0 after one inning, Huntley compiled four runs in the bottom of the second inning before amassing nine runs on two doubles, four singles and four walks in the bottom of the third inning. Bentley Svela struck out one batter for Rochelle.
