ROCHELLE— The Rochelle Little League 10U Baseball All-Stars dominated Rock Falls 13-1 on Saturday to win the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship tournament. Rochelle will advance to compete in the Elgin Sub-State tournament beginning Friday, July 23.
Bentley Svela threw three and one-third innings for Rochelle, striking out six batters and allowing one run. Quentin Ansteth entered in relief, tossing one and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts and no hits or runs allowed. Teddy Millard tripled and totaled three RBIs, while Vaughn Manning singled and recorded two RBIs while scoring two runs in the victory.
Rochelle took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Ansteth singled and scored on an RBI groundout from Axel Alsop. Rock Falls tied the game at 1-1 with one run on three singles and a walk in the bottom of the second inning, but Rochelle responded with one run in the top of the third inning to go ahead 2-1. Sergio Cervantes walked and stole home to put Rochelle up.
Rochelle went ahead 3-1 after Manning singled and stole home for Rochelle in the top of the fourth inning. Rochelle sealed its victory with a 10-run outburst in the top of the fifth inning. Svela, Ansteth and Manning each drew walks and stole home to make it a 6-1 game before Cervantes drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Jasper Macklin. Millard smacked a three-RBI triple to right field in the next at-bat, scoring Kamden Kessen, Jaxon Quinonez and Cervantes.
Leading 10-1, Rochelle added to its advantage after Millard stole home and Manning hit a two-RBI groundout to score Nolan Zick and Svela. Rochelle went 3-0 in the District 19 tournament.
