Little League: 11U Baseball All-Stars advance to state tournament

The Rochelle Little League 11U Baseball All-Stars went 1-1 over two games in the Illinois Little League Sub-State Tournament at Moline on Saturday. Rochelle finished second in the pool to advance to the state championship tournament. The team includes Joey Chadwick, Elijah Good, Sergio Cervantes, Christopher Nambo, Nolan Zick, Kolton Cragin, Declan McKinney, Gabe Bybee, Teddy Millard, Maddex Jackson, Jasper Macklin, Mikey Chadwick, Quentin Ansteth and Vaughn Manning. Rochelle finishes 1-1 in sub-state tournament at Moline

MOLINE — The Rochelle Little League 11U Baseball All-Stars teed off the Illinois Little League Sub-State Tournament in Moline on Saturday, splitting two games and finishing second in the three-team event to advance to the Illinois Little League State Championship. Rochelle fell 11-2 against Ottawa in the morning before bouncing back with a 9-8 win over Moline in the evening.

Ottawa

Rochelle fell behind early, with Ottawa scoring three runs over each of the first two innings to surge ahead 6-0. Ottawa added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, taking an 8-0 lead before Rochelle tallied two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, where Elijah Good singled and back-to-back RBI doubles from Kolton Cragin and Vaughn Manning brought two runs home.

Ottawa sealed the win over Rochelle with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Rochelle finished with six hits and two players including Cragin and Jasper Macklin scored one run. Maddex Jackson, Sergio Cervantes and Mikey Chadwick each recorded hits in the loss. Quentin Ansteth started on the mound, striking out three in three and one-third innings pitched.

Moline

Rochelle took a 3-0 lead over Moline with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Vaughn Manning and Mikey Chadwick drew back-to-back walks to open the frame before Quentin Ansteth sent an RBI single into center field for the first run of the evening. Chadwick then scored on a wild pitch and Ansteth crossed home plate after an RBI groundout from Kolton Cragin.

Gabe Bybee dribbled an RBI groundout to the pitcher in the bottom of the second inning, scoring Elijah Good and giving Rochelle a 4-0 lead. After Moline earned two runs back in the top of the third inning, Rochelle tallied three runs in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 7-2. Mikey Chadwick singled to center and scored on a wild pitch before Jasper Macklin and Teddy Millard reached with the bases loaded to bring Ansteth and Joey Chadwick home.

Maddex Jackson delivered a two-RBI single to center for the Rochelle All-Stars in the bottom of the fourth inning, allowing Mikey Chadwick and Ansteth to score and give the team a 9-2 advantage. Moline nearly rallied to tie the score, scratching one run in the top of the fifth inning before plating five runs in the top of the sixth inning. With the tying and go-ahead runners on base for Moline, Bybee recorded his lone strikeout on the mound for the third out of the frame.

Joey Chadwick started on the mound, throwing two and two-thirds innings and striking out four batters. Good and Bybee entered in relief, with Good striking out four batters over two and one-third innings. Mikey Chadwick and Ansteth each scored three runs in the victory.
