The Rochelle Little League 12U Baseball All-Stars beat down Freeport 17-3 on Saturday to win the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship tournament. Rochelle will advance to the Moline Sectional Championship tournament beginning Thursday, July 22.

Rochelle cruises over Freeport 17-3

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Little League 12U Baseball All-Stars beat down Freeport 17-3 on Saturday to win the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship tournament. Rochelle will advance to the Moline Sectional Championship tournament beginning Thursday, July 22.

Connor Hunley started on the mound, throwing two innings and recording one strikeout. Jonathan Andrist hurled the final four innings, totaling eight strikeouts and allowing only three hits. Connor Lewis doubled, singled and compiled four RBIs to lead the offense, while Andrist doubled, singled and added three RBIs. Luke Dickey and Warren Schweitzer each had two RBIs.

Rochelle took the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning after Schweitzer stole home and Bobby Tourdot scored on a wild pitch. Freeport tied the game at 2-2 on two runs, two walks and one single in the bottom of the third inning. Rochelle answered with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Dickey’s fielder’s choice grounder plated Tyler Gensler before Lewis drilled a two-RBI single through the infield to score both Dickey and Tourdot.

Leading 5-2, Rochelle added two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Tourdot singled to score Graham Hall and Gensler scored on a wild pitch after hitting a single earlier in the frame. Freeport responded with one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Rochelle put Freeport away with 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning. Andrew Huerta reached on an error before scoring on Andrist’s sacrifice fly to begin the rally. Schweitzer delivered a two-RBI double two at-bats later, bringing Andrew Eyster and John Chadwick home to make it a 10-3 game.

Hunley and Dickey drew bases-loaded walks to score Hall and Schweitzer before Lewis belted a two-RBI double to left that plated Tourdot and Hunley. Chadwick drew a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to score Dickey, giving Rochelle a 15-3 lead. Andrist closed out the Rochelle rally with a two-RBI double to right that brought Lewis and Eyster across home plate.
