The Rochelle Little League 9-11 Baseball All-Stars had a tough start to the Illinois Little League Sub-State Championship at Wallingford Park on Friday. The boys opened the tournament against Moline, falling by a score of 15-5 to drop to 0-1 overall. Rochelle will face Streator and Huntley over the weekend.

ROCK FALLS — The Rochelle Little League 9-11 Baseball All-Stars had a tough start to the Illinois Little League Sub-State Championship at Wallingford Park on Friday. The boys opened the tournament against Moline, falling by a score of 15-5 to drop to 0-1 overall. Rochelle will face Streator and Huntley over the weekend.

Moline capitalized on two walks and an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before adding two more runs on an error and an RBI single. Moline carried a 3-0 lead into the second inning, exploding for 10 runs to pull away from the Rochelle boys. Moline scored its first run on a throwing error before notching three consecutive run-scoring hits.

Moline drew back-to-back bases loaded walks soon after to go ahead 9-0 before a three-run triple made it a 12-0 game. The inning ended with two strikeouts by Caden Goodwin after Moline added an RBI single to go up 13-0. Goodwin bounced back for Rochelle by pitching a scoreless third inning.

Rochelle avoided the shutout by scoring five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Logan Mershon and Dylan Manning each walked and scored on passed balls before Bane Workman’s RBI single plated Deegan Schabacker. Ian Metzger then cleared the bases with a two-run single to right field. Moline capped off the win with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
