Little League: Oglesby edges 12U Baseball All-Stars in sectional finals

The Rochelle Little League 12U Baseball All-Stars hosted the Illinois Little League Sectional Championship tournament, finishing 1-2 over three games. The team includes Luke Chadwick, Bo Lundquist, Jace Spears, Brayden Harley, Eli Schweitzer, John Williams, Dayton Mellor, Bentley Svela, Korbin Milos, Danny Garcia, AJ Milan, Maddox Hueramo, Riley Smith and Tyson Pavlak. Rochelle falls 4-2 in final postseason game

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Little League 12U Baseball All-Stars earned a rematch against Oglesby on Sunday for the Illinois Little League Sectional Championship at Floyd J. Tilton Park. Rochelle fought to the finish, but two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning allowed Oglesby to outlast the 12U All-Stars for a 4-2 win. Rochelle finished 4-2 overall during postseason play.

Eli Schweitzer threw all five innings for the Rochelle All-Stars, limiting Oglesby to five hits. Riley Smith finished with one RBI, while Schweitzer and Bo Lundquist each totaled one hit and one run scored. Brayden Harley also recorded one hit for the Rochelle All-Stars in the loss.

Oglesby took a 2-0 lead on two doubles and an error in the bottom of the first inning. Rochelle earned one run back in the top of the second inning, where Smith drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the Oglesby lead in half. Harley and Schweitzer singled before Jace Spears drew a walk to load the bases in the top of the third inning, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat. Lundquist singled and scored on a passed ball to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning.

Oglesby jumped ahead 4-2 on a two-run homer to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Rochelle All-Stars went three-up, three-down in the top of the sixth inning to end the game.
