Little League: Senior League All-Stars cruise over Moline

Rochelle wins 16-2 to keep state title hopes alive

BURBANK — The Rochelle Little League Senior League All-Stars remained in the Illinois Little League State Championship tournament with a decisive 16-2 win over Moline on Saturday. Rochelle will face South Elgin in the next round of the consolation bracket Sunday afternoon.

Ryan Senne went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs to lead the offense, while Evan Stinnett went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs. Dylan Whaley went 2-for-3 with one RBI and threw all five innings for the Rochelle All-Stars, striking out six batters and allowing only two hits.

Senne sent an RBI groundout to third base and Van Gerber reached on an error to give the Rochelle All-Stars a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Rochelle surged ahead with five runs in the bottom of the second inning, where Braden Behrens smacked a two-RBI single into center field before eventually scoring on an error. After Ethan Goodwin drew a two-out walk, Senne stepped up and blasted a two-run homer to center to extend the Rochelle lead to 7-0. 

Stinnett made the score 8-0 with an RBI groundout to the shortstop during the bottom of the third inning. Moline tallied two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Rochelle All-Stars continued to strike in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring eight runs on three singles, two doubles and one triple. Senne sparked the frame with a two-RBI triple to left field before Gerber slapped an RBI double to left and Whaley followed with an RBI single in the next two at-bats.

After Matthew Lynn walked to keep the offense moving, Stinnett sent a two-RBI single into center field and Braden Hunley hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop, reaching on an RBI infield single. Antonio Trenado brought the final run home for the Rochelle All-Stars, lining the ball to third base and reaching on an error that allowed Hunley to cross home plate.
