Little League: Senior League All-Stars fall against Burbank

Rochelle concedes first loss at state tournament 16-6

BURBANK — The Rochelle Little League Senior League All-Stars conceded their first loss of the Illinois Little League State Championship tournament on Thursday, falling 16-6 against Burbank American. Rochelle will face Moline on Saturday morning in the consolation bracket.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Rochelle scored four runs to take the 4-1 lead. After back-to-back walks opened the frame, Ethan Goodwin reached on an error, allowing Braden Behrens to score and tie the game. Ryan Senne followed with an RBI single to score Chandler Cunningham before Evan Stinnett sent a two-RBI double into left field for two more runs.

Burbank American earned two runs back in the top of the second inning, but the Rochelle All-Stars fired back with two runs in the bottom of the second inning to surge ahead 6-3. Braden Hunley doubled to open the frame and Behrens doubled in the next at-bat to bring Hunley home. Behrens scored on a wild pitch five batters later for the sixth and final run for Rochelle. 

Burbank American took a 8-6 lead after tallying five runs on four walks and one double in the top of the third inning. Burbank American followed with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning before icing the victory with one run in the top of the sixth inning. Goodwin went 2-for-4 to lead the Rochelle offense in the loss, while Behrens scored two runs and Stinnett had two RBIs.
