ROCHELLE — The Cub Scout Pinewood Derby races were held on Saturday Jan. 19.
The Rochelle Kiwanis Club supports the scouts through sponsorship of the Cub Scouts and the Pinewood Derby race.
Pinewood Derby is the annual event when scouts build a car out of a block of wood and the wheels provided. Each scout can design the car following the size and weight guidelines. Each age group races amongst themselves and the fastest car wins.
Before the races began the monthly pack meeting was held and monthly advancements earned for scouts were handed out.

First, were the sibling and adult races and then followed with the cub scouts. The top two winners for each age group and the car voted best design moved on to the next round to be held at Pecatonica in April.
For the kindergarten age group, Leo Leon took first place and Korbin Sherbrook took second place.
First grade Tiger winners were Spencer Carpenter and Matrix Bryan. The Wolf den first place for speed was Declan McKinney and second place went to Benjamin Morris.
The Bear den first place winner was Braylon Wells and second place Mason Bolhous. The Webelos group was won by Owen Carmichael and Zack Smith.
Arrow of Light first place was Miles Hunley and second place Reece Harris.
The fastest car in all the pack went to Owen Carmichael.
The best sportsmanship award at the races was given to Bryson Wells.
