Lorenz W. Metzger


DAVIS JUNCTION — Lorenz W. Metzger, 99, of Davis Junction passed away on May 18. He was born on March 27, 1923, in Parkston, South Dakota, to Adolf J. and Martha (Wegehaupt) Metzger. Lorenz married Betty J. Bunger, on June 15, 1947, in Rochelle. He was a farmer in the Rochelle area for over 75 years. Lorenz was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle.

Survivors include his children: daughter Linda Cagle of Rochelle; sons, Lee (Mary) Metzger of Rochelle, Merle (Sue) Metzger of Rochelle, Mark (Diane) Metzger of Rochelle, Mick (Mary Beth) Metzger of Davis Junction and Tom (Amy) Metzger of Rochelle; sister: Olga Howard of Aurora; sister-in-law: Mary Bunger of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconisn; 17 grandchildren: Rhonda (Kevin) Crandall of Rochelle, Jennifer Cagle of Rochelle, Steve (Sarah) Cagle of DeKalb, Jeff Metzger of Rochelle, Brad (Erin) Metzger of Rochelle, Bryan (Taryn Brooks) Metzger of Chana, Will Metzger of Davis Junction, Mike (Michelle) Metzger of Rochelle, Sarah (J.C.) Fitzgerald of Lovington, Illinois, Scott (Margaret) Metzger of River Forest, Illinois, Bridget (Chad) Schwebke of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Shanna Metzger of Denver, Colorade, Trent (Kayla) Metzger of Rochelle, Emily (Josh Weber) Metzger of Champaign, Brett (Jennifer) Metzger of Rochelle, Elijah and Abby Metzger of Rochelle; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Larry Metzger; brothers; Ewald, Nestor, Reinhard, Walter Metzger and Fritz, William, and Herman Bialas; sisters, Martha and Bertha Bialas, Hanna Metzger Schaver and Ruth Schnuckel.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 23 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle with Rev. Greg Hoffmann officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnridge Cemetery.
