DEKALB — Lowell W. ‘Herbie’ Rand, 90, of DeKalb, died Saturday, July 14, 2018, at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center.
He was born May 27, 1928, in Rochelle, the son of Emmett and Mary (Riemsnider) Rand. Herbie married Donna Mae Jensen on Oct. 2, 1949, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in DeKalb.
Herbie was a graduate of Rochelle High School Class of 1946. He was formerly a farmer, owner of Rand Trucking, and was employed by the DeKalb Ag for 20 years, from which he retired. Herbie was a member of the First Congregational UCC in DeKalb; an avid Cubs fan; and enjoyed watching his son’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.  
He is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Diane (Steve) Salsbury of Geneva; four grandchildren, Trey (Kristine) Salsbury, Haley (Eric) Dieken, Ryan (Joselyn) Rand and Derek Rand; five great-grandchildren, Gavin, Addison, Paige, Brayden and Laren; three brothers, Howard Gloria) Rand, Gerald (Margie) Rand and Charles (Phyllis) Rand; one sister, Norma Rand; several nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Karen Rand.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Rand; his parents; and several brothers and sisters.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 19 at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with Pastors Joe Gastiger and Judy Harris of the First Congregational UCC officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services, Thursday, July 19, at the funeral home.
