Many opportunities given to learn about park district plans

Posted

Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter to the editor in response to another letter to the editor regarding the Flagg-Rochelle Park District plans to build a recreational facility west of the Rochelle Township High School.
The letter I am addressing indicated that the park district had not provided opportunities for the public to get information about this plan which is intended to meet the needs of the Flagg-Rochelle Park District citizens. The accusation is not accurate.

A total of seven public presentations were given on this topic. In each case, the presentation was shared with the public by radio or newspaper. The meetings information was on the park district website and more importantly, the presentations were given by the firm hired to do the project.
I personally attended two of the meetings. One that I attended at Rochelle City Hall was so crowded that there was standing room only. In each case, there was a speaker and power point presentation available. Questions and comments from the audience were part of the presentations. These presentations were a good example of how public bodies are required to share these types of plans with the public it serves.
While each of us as individuals may disagree with the action taken by governmental bodies, they must follow Freedom of Information rules and our park district did what it was supposed to do by having these meetings and making sure the public had the required information available so citizens would know the facts.
