HILLCREST — A 31-year-old man from Marengo has been identified as the driver that was killed in an early morning car crash Friday in Hillcrest.
Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the one-vehicle accident that left Benjamin R. Koelper, 31, of Marengo, dead..
The accident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on IL Route 251 near the intersection of Twombly Road.
According to reports, upon arrival of Rochelle Police and ISP, the car was fully engulfed in flames. Koelper was found inside the vehicle once crews were able to extinguish the fire.
Preliminary reports indicate Koelper was traveling southbound on IL Route 251 when the car left the roadway and struck a tree.
