Maryland man dies after parking lot accident

ROCHELLE — A Maryland man is dead this morning after an accident involving a semi truck in the parking lot of a local manufacturing facility.
According to Rochelle Police Chief Eric Higby, police and first responders were called to the Ryder Logistics facility, 975 S. Caron Road, at approximately 2:15 a.m. Thursday after it was reported that a man had been struck by a semi truck in the parking lot.
Higby said that according to reports from witnesses on scene, Paul D. Carroll, 61, of Montgomery Village, Md., was apparently walking in the lot when he slipped, fell or knocked off balance near the truck and was subsequently run over.

“The call came in around 2:15 a.m. and upon arrival the responding officer assisted with emergency first aid until the fire department arrived,” Higby said. “Unfortunately, despite all efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.”

Carroll was working at the Ryder facility at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
