ROCHELLE — Rochelle Little League hosted the 2017 Illinois Little League Softball District 19 Championship this summer, and the Minor League Girls All-Stars did their best to bring home a victory against some fierce competition.
Rochelle began the district tournament against Rock Falls on Thursday, with the girls battling hard but falling by a score of 12-1. Lauren Dyer took the mound for Rochelle, nearly throwing a complete game while striking out two Rock Falls hitters. Kylie Mershon started at catcher and failed to allow a single stolen base, while Jaydin Dickey plated teammate Jenna Graf for Rochelle’s lone RBI in the game.
“They held on until the fifth inning,” head coach Scott Etes said. “But the Rock Falls bats came to life and we just couldn’t stop them.”
The Minor League Girls All-Stars returned to Floyd J. Tilton Park on Friday looking to stay alive in the district tournament with a win over Sterling. But the Sterling bats proved too tough to contain, with Rochelle falling by a score of 10-0. The loss ends Rochelle’s postseason run.
