Mother's Day tradition

ROCHELLE — Jeni Hardin beams while sitting with her mother, Karon Mathis, as they both shared how much they enjoy working together.

The mother-daughter duo are employed at Unity Hospice in Rochelle and are looking forward to spending Mother’s Day together, although it will be a little different this year.

As many families do for mom’s special day, Hardin and Mathis have traditionally spent Mother’s Day with Mathis’ mother, Hardin’s grandmother, Phyllis Knudson. This year will be the first Mother’s Day without Knudson as she passed away last December.

Knudson had been a dedicated volunteer for the hospice organization, working alongside her daughter and granddaughter in the Rochelle office. Along with being employed part time as the receptionist, Mathis also volunteers her time several hours each week in the office.
