Municipal Band summer schedule set

The Municipal Band will be performing its first concert as part of the City of Rochelle-funded 2023 Municipal Band Concert Series Wednesday, May 31 at The Atwood Park Band Shell at 7:30 p.m.

ROCHELLE — The Municipal Band will be performing its first concert as part of the City of Rochelle-funded 2023 Municipal Band Concert Series Wednesday, May 31 at The Atwood Park Band Shell at 7:30 p.m. Each concert you will hear a blend of marches, overtures, musicals and sound tracks of popular movies as well as traditional concert band literature.  All of the concerts are listed below. 

Wednesday, June 21 concert, 7:30 p.m., Band Shell, Atwood Park.

Sunday, July 2, 4 of July Concert, 8 p.m., Band Shell, Atwood Park.

Wednesday, July 19 concert, 7:30 p.m., Band Shell, Atwood Park.

Wednesday, July 26, final concert, 7:30 p.m., Band Shell, Atwood Park.

As always mark your calendar every Wednesday evening to spend an evening at the park for an enjoyable blend of live music. This summer’s special concerts include on June 14, Kishwaukee River Stompers. Zephan Drew, a local Rochelle Township High School alumnus, is a member of this group; June 28, The Bluegrass Reunion Band, a returning favorite; and July 14 The Footstompers, a group that consists of singers, percussion “toys”, accordion, banjo and bass.  This will be their last year after entertaining crowds all of the Midwest for 50 years. They play a balance of polka, Dixie Land and other old American favorites. All concerts are free. Bring a lawn chair, invite a friend, and make it a family outing.

The Municipal Band is under the direction of Ron Duval, retired director of bands and music department chair at RTHS.
