Thanksgiving has come and gone and now Christmas looms. Three weeks to get the tree up, lights hung, presents bought and wrapped……and that time will fly past.
We had family and friends over for Thanksgiving, something we did not do last year. We were all vaccinated, so we felt pretty safe. I think the family and friends just made the food taste better. Sweeter. More filled with love, maybe.
Local folks volunteered at the VFW, cooking and serving meals to those who wanted a Thanksgiving dinner. I don’t know how many years the VFW has been doing this, but it is a good thing. Food and fellowship are important, so my compliments for taking on this project every year.
Christmas trees
I love fresh Christmas trees. I love going out to a choose and cut tree place and hunting for the perfect tree, chopping it down, bringing it home and decorating it. I like the cut your own lots, because those trees are planted for one purpose…to be a Christmas tree. Lots of times Christmas comes and some tree lots still have precut trees unsold. I always think they should give them away Dec. 24, but that is not a good business practice.
All good things come to an end though. I am leaning toward an artificial tree next year. Even writing that makes my heart break a little. As I get older, I find it is increasingly difficult to cut my own. For the past few years, my son in law has done the cutting while I watched, and while he does not mind, he may sing a different tune when it is 12 degrees with blowing snow and I am still deciding between four different trees.
When you get used to doing things a certain way, it is hard to change.
Northwestern
Speaking of change, got a letter last week from Northwestern Medicine that they are closing their satellite office located in front of Walmart. Bummer.
RACF
Still speaking of change….a lot of it! Over $9,000 was donated to the Rochelle Area Community Foundation on Giving Tuesday! It’s great to see residents and businesses support the foundation.
Downtown
It was nice to read about the home decor store opening in the old Stone’s store.
The downtown is slowly coming back with specialty stores with items not in a big box place. It’s important that we support these local businesses.
