ROCHELLE — The Rochelle AYSO will have a new facility at Lincoln Elementary School to utilize when the youth soccer organization kicks off its upcoming season this fall.
Construction on a multipurpose facility for storage, concessions and more for the Rochelle AYSO began at Lincoln School earlier this summer, and Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Superintendent Don Elliott said the project is expected to be finished when the next soccer season begins.
“AYSO has been searching for a place to call their own,” Elliott said. “They want to have their own facility so they can serve concessions and have storage among other things… Everything on the exterior is complete outside of the garage door on the south side… It’ll be ready for them to use for their upcoming season.”
The park district partnered with Bruns Construction to complete the foundation of the building, while Elliott said the Rochelle AYSO will continue working inside the structure on features such as the concession stand. The Rochelle AYSO has hosted games at multiple fields over the last several years including Helms Park and Rochelle Middle School, but Elliott said that Lincoln School appears to be a good long-term fit for the local program.
“They’ve moved around over the years,” Elliott said. “I think Lincoln School will be a good fit for them. I think down the road that there can still be some improvements to the field.”
