ROCHELLE — The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District and Bruns Construction are teaming up to pour new concrete at the Floyd J. Tilton Athletic Complex and Teen Town for walkways that ensure better access to the facilities as well as safer travel for passersby.
Work began at Floyd J. Tilton on Monday, with concrete being poured to form a new sidewalk in front of the Rochelle Little League concession stand just beyond the right field fence of the Major League Boys Division diamond. Park Superintendent Don Elliott said another sidewalk will be formed adjacent to the curb along the parking lot that goes from Teen Town to the bike path.
“We want people to have better and safer access to the concession stand,” Elliott said. “The sidewalk going from Teen Town to the bike path is being made for people to have somewhere to walk so they don’t have to walk in the driveway of the parking lot area. We want to move people off the board and create a safer environment.”

Elliott said that most of the concrete for the two sidewalks would be poured by Tuesday. Once the sidewalks are completed, Elliott said that work will begin to create four concrete pads (each one measuring 10 feet by 40 feet) for new bleachers at the Little League complex as well as six concrete pads for player benches on the Rookie League fields near May School.
“It won’t take long for the work to be done once the concrete is poured out,” Elliott said.
The Rochelle Little League complex has undergone a series of restorations over the past year including new fencing at each diamond as well as new paint to the Teen Town and concession stand buildings. New paint, roofing and trim on the dugouts has also been completed in addition to new steel on the three press boxes and new roofing to the facility’s storage building.
Elliott said the park district is hoping to put in a walking path from the May School fields to the Tilton Park fields in the future.
“I think things are shaping up nicely,” Elliott said. “There are more things we want to do.”
