ROCHELLE – The Rochelle Township High School student council will be hosting a new fundraiser next week to benefit three local non-profit organizations.

RTHS students and staff will be hosting a lip sync battle fundraiser at the high school next Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. The event aims to provide a fun night of musical performances while raising funds for the Rochelle Rescue Mission, HOPE of Ogle County and The Kitchen Table.

At the event, students and teachers, individually or in a group, choose a song and mouth the words while dancing or doing a performance. Each performer will have a corresponding bucket that audience members place donations in to determine their favorite choice.

“This is our first year trying it out, and it is replacing Mr. Hub,” said Melanie Gonzalez, RTHS student council vice president. “We are hoping that it does well and becomes an annual fundraiser.”

Students and staff performing in the battle will be competing for three prizes. First place will get a $100 Visa gift card, second place will receive a $50 gift card and finally, the audience will choose its favorite to receive a $50 gift card as well.

The event is open to anyone who would like to attend and tickets can be purchased for $5 at the door. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the three local organizations and student council is hoping for a good turnout to raise a large amount of money.  

“We are hoping that the community comes out to raise a lot of money for the people in our community that need it most,” said Gonzalez.
