NIU Community School of the Arts announces Spring recital and concert schedule

DEKALB — The NIU Community School of the Arts is pleased to announce the schedule for spring recitals and concerts.  Solo and ensemble performances are featured in May on the stage of the Recital Hall and Concert Hall in the Music Building at Northern Illinois University.  All CSA concerts and recitals are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, May 2 – CSA Symphonette performs their Spring concert at 6 p.m. in Boutell Concert Hall.  This string ensemble for youth players is directed by Linc Smelser.
Wednesday, May 3 – CSA Sinfonia performs at 7:30 p.m. in Boutell Concert Hall.  This concert features 2016 Sinfonia Concerto Competition winner, violinist Thompson Wang, plus special guest pianist Emily Bear, and is a joint performance with the Rockford Youth Symphony Orchestra.  Linc Smelser conducts a delightful program that includes the music of Sibelius and Saint-Saens.
Saturday, May 6 – CSA Showcase Recitals are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. in the Recital Hall.  Students who take private music lessons at the NIU Community School on a variety of instruments will perform solo pieces with an accompanist. 
Saturday, May 6 – The NIU Suzuki Strings violin graduation and group recital begins at 10 a.m. in Boutell Concert Hall.

Saturday, May 6 – Recitals continue as piano students of Georgia Price perform at 3 p.m. and guitar students of Eric Schroeder play at 5 p.m.
Saturday, May 6 – The CSA Steelband directed by Yuko Asada and the NIUkulele Ensemble directed by Eric Schroeder perform in concert at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
Sunday, May 7 – The harp and piano students of Jaina Krueger perform at 12 p.m. in the Recital Hall
Wednesday, May 10 – The CSA Guitar Ensemble directed by Quentin Dover performs in the Recital Hall at 8 p.m.
Saturday, May 13 – The Suzuki violin students of Ann Montzka Smelser and Laurie Rodriguez perform at 4 and 6 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
Monday, May 15 – This recital features the Suzuki piano students of Marilyn Montzka at 5 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
Wednesday, May 17 – The cello students of Linc Smelser perform at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
Sunday, May 21 – The Suzuki cello students of Tom Cappaert perform at 3 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
