DEKALB — The NIU Community School of the Arts is pleased to announce the schedule for spring recitals and concerts. Solo and ensemble performances are featured in May on the stage of the Recital Hall and Concert Hall in the Music Building at Northern Illinois University. All CSA concerts and recitals are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, May 2 – CSA Symphonette performs their Spring concert at 6 p.m. in Boutell Concert Hall. This string ensemble for youth players is directed by Linc Smelser.
Wednesday, May 3 – CSA Sinfonia performs at 7:30 p.m. in Boutell Concert Hall. This concert features 2016 Sinfonia Concerto Competition winner, violinist Thompson Wang, plus special guest pianist Emily Bear, and is a joint performance with the Rockford Youth Symphony Orchestra. Linc Smelser conducts a delightful program that includes the music of Sibelius and Saint-Saens.
Saturday, May 6 – CSA Showcase Recitals are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Students who take private music lessons at the NIU Community School on a variety of instruments will perform solo pieces with an accompanist.
Saturday, May 6 – The NIU Suzuki Strings violin graduation and group recital begins at 10 a.m. in Boutell Concert Hall.
