DEKALB – Northern Illinois University Continuing and Professional Education is excited to offer a Creative Writing Day Camp for junior high school students entering grades sixth through eighth grades, July 23-27 at the NIU DeKalb campus. The day camp is held from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m. -1 p.m. on Friday, which includes an end of camp pizza party.
The creative writing day camp has run for over a decade at NIU and students develop their skills in writing fiction, poetry and explore other forms of creative writing, such as flash fiction, screenwriting, and copywriting.
The week’s activities include journaling, free-writing, guided writing, structured exercises, and revision strategies. Students will participate in workshops to learn to give and accept constructive criticism. Instructors will provide individual feedback on campers’ work to help them develop their unique voice and style.
