No injuries after truck hits Creston Post Office

CRESTON — No injuries were reported Thursday after a truck accidentally struck the Creston Post Office at 111 N. Main St. just before noon.

A 2020 GMC pickup driven by Laurie Bagg, 60, of Creston hopped the parking block in front of the building before knocking over a ballast and pushing in the front of the post office, Rochelle Fire Department Chief Dave Sawlsville and an Ogle County Sheriff’s report said.

The Sheriff’s report said Bagg was ejected from the vehicle as she had already opened her driver’s side door while trying to park. She was uninjured and refused medical attention.

The building, which the report said suffered “major structural damage,” was secured afterwards and the power was cut off as a precaution, Sawlsville said. One postal worker was in the building at the time of the accident and was uninjured. The brick of the building looked pushed in by the vehicle.

“The building is a stick build,” Sawlsville said. “The brick is just a veneer. The building isn't at risk of falling over.”

Responding to the incident were the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and Rochelle Fire and EMS. No citations have been issued at this time.
