Police arriving on the scene reported visible flames inside a bedroom on the first floor prompting a full-box alarm. Crews from Rochelle, Hillcrest, Steward and Flagg Center responded and extinguished the blaze.
Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville credits the responding crews holding the fire to one room inside the apartment. Other tenants in the multi-unit building were allowed back inside. The apartment affected sustained heavy smoke damage.
Sawlsville said the exact cause of the fire is under investigation and estimates losses at under $10,000.
