On Dec. 30 at approximately 9:56 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2,000 block of South Watertown Road. After investigation, deputies placed Joel Newcomer, 61, of Chana, under arrest for driving while license suspended. Newcomer was additionally issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol and driving with a suspended registration. Newcomer was released on an I-Bond at the scene.

Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: Dec. 30-Jan. 3

OREGON — On Dec. 30 at approximately 9:56 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2,000 block of South Watertown Road. After investigation, deputies placed Joel Newcomer, 61, of Chana, under arrest for driving while license suspended. Newcomer was additionally issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol and driving with a suspended registration. Newcomer was released on an I-Bond at the scene. 

On Dec. 30 at 12:28 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2,000 block of East Illinois Route 64 for a speeding violation. After an investigation, Ashley Paddie, 30, of Dixon was arrested for driving on a suspended license. Paddie was also cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. Paddie was released on a signature I-Bond with a return court date.

On Dec. 31 at 2 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop on Mud Creek Road  at Indian Heights Drive. After a short investigation, deputies arrested James Malik, 30, of Moline for driving while license suspended. Malik was released on scene and will appear in court at a later date.  

On Dec. 31 at 2:05 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 9,000 block of North Kishwaukee Road. During the course of the investigation, Michael P. Labay, 35, of Rockford was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Labay was also issued citations for speeding 26-34 m.p.h. over the speed limit and improper lane usage. Labay was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond. Deputies were assisted by the Byron Police Department. 

On Dec. 31 at approximately 9:46 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 3,000 block of North Illinois Route 2. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Sara D. Wyant, 38, of Mt. Morris for no valid driver’s license, improper container of cannabis/driver and an outstanding Ogle County arrest warrant for failure to appear. Wyant was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Ogle County Jail where she was held in lieu of bond.  Wyant was additionally cited for no rear registration light and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.  ​

On Dec. 31 deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 88 which was speeding at 109 m.p.h. The vehicle fled from deputies north bound on Interstate 39 and then west on Illinois Route 38. The vehicle stopped near the Dement Road intersection after it was disabled as the result of striking the center concrete median. The driver was identified as Elexus Soto, 27, of Rochelle. Soto was cited for speeding and fleeing to elude a police officer. Soto was released on a I-bond and will appear in court at a later date.

On Jan. 1 at approximately 6:30 a.m. deputies and Lynn-Scott-Rock Fire/EMS responded to Interstate 39 mile marker 106 for a single-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee was located facing north in the west ditch. Contact was made with the driver and sole occupant Nathan Iverson, 30, of Rockton. Iverson was complaining of a hand injury and was treated buy EMS personnel before being transported to Rochelle Community Hospital. Upon further investigation it is believed Iverson fell asleep before traveling off of the roadway when the Jeep overturned coming to rest upright. Iverson was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and no valid insurance. 

On Jan. 1 at approximately 5:05 p.m. deputies and the Byron Fire Department responded to the report of a vehicle in the ditch on Tower Road just south of Oak Grove Road in rural Byron. A silver Chevy truck was located in the ditch on the east side of the roadway occupied by Bruce Biermann, 70, of Byron. Biermann was found unconscious in the vehicle and was extricated by the Byron Fire Department; who immediately began life saving measures. Biermann was transported to Swedish American Hospital in Rockford for treatment, but died shortly thereafter. Accident remains under investigation.

On Jan. 1 at approximately 10:22 a.m. deputies responded to a driving complaint on North River Road. The vehicle stopped on the 1,600 block of North River Road. After a short investigation, deputies arrested Dennis W. Lackey, 47, of DeKalb for driving while his license was revoked. Lackey was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was released to correctional staff and held in lieu of bond.

On Jan. 2 at approximately 6:13 p.m. deputies responded to the 14,000 block for a report of a car in the south ditch. After investigation, Deputies arrested Kilian Atabong, 26, of Snellville, Georgia, for driving while license suspended. Atabong was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed and improper lane usage. Atabong was given an I-Bond with a return court date later next month. 

On Jan. 2 at approximately 9:18 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at Freeport Road and White Oak Road. Upon further investigation, Michael Donald, 41, of Omaha, Nebraska, was arrested for driving on a revoked license. Donald was also cited for speed and released on a notice to appear. 

On Jan. 2 at approximately 5:30 a.m. deputies along with the Rochelle Fire/EMS Department were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on Interstate 39 at mile marker 103. Upon further investigation it was learned Lilian Conley, 19, of Wisconsin, slid off of the roadway due to roadway conditions. Conley traveled approximately 100 yards before driving over a cement culvert and crashing into a ravine. Conley was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. ​

On Jan. 2 at approximately 1:54 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of East Illinois Route 64 and Chamberlain Road. Upon further investigation, Thaddeus Stokes, 30, from Chicago, was arrested for no valid driver’s license. Stokes was also cited for speeding and released on an I-Bond.

On Jan. 3 at approximately 1:20 a.m., deputies were dispatched to 504 E. Third St. in Leaf River for the report of a battery. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Nathaniel Banister, 18, of Leaf River for aggravated battery. Banister was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held with no bond. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.  ​

On Jan. 3 at approximately 10:47 p.m. deputies attempted to stop a vehicle in the 13,000 block of West Illinois Route 72. The vehicle eventually came to a stop near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Green Street in Forreston. After further investigation a 17-year-old juvenile from Leaf River was taken into custody for aggravated fleeing to elude and no valid driver’s license. The juvenile was additionally cited for speeding 35+ m.p.h., obstructed registration, driving without headlights and possession of cannabis. The juvenile was released to a parent will appear in Ogle County court at a later date.

On Jan. 3 at 10:44 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a disturbance in the 200 block of East Third Street in Leaf River. During the investigation deputies arrested a 16-year-old juvenile for domestic battery and disorderly conduct. The juvenile was released into the custody of his parents.
