On Sept. 17 at approximately 10:11 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 5,000 block of West Illinois Route 72. After investigation, deputies arrested Douglas Vargas, 28, of Tampa, Florida for driving while license suspended. Barrett was also issued citations for speeding 21-25 m.p.h. over the speed limit. Vargas received an I-Bond with a return court date later next month.

OREGON — On Sept. 17 at approximately 10:11 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 5,000 block of West Illinois Route 72. After investigation, deputies arrested Douglas Vargas, 28, of Tampa, Florida for driving while license suspended. Barrett was also issued citations for speeding 21-25 m.p.h. over the speed limit. Vargas received an I-Bond with a return court date later next month.
On Sept. 18 at approximately 9:57 p.m. deputies performed a traffic stop at the intersection of Illinois Route 251 and Oak Avenue after responding to a suspicious vehicle call. After investigation, deputies placed Roman Saldana-Sotelo, 50, of Belvidere, under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Saldana-Sotelo was additionally issued citations for failure to yield at a stop sign and failure to stop at an intersection. Saldana-Sotelo was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.
On Sept. 18 at approximately 3:40 p.m. deputies were advised of a possible reckless driver on Illinois Route 2 North of Grand Detour. At about 3:50 p.m. deputies located the offending vehicle in Oregon and conducted a traffic stop. After a short investigation, deputies arrested Samantha A. Bright, 45, of Rock Falls Illinois for driving while license suspended and attempted obstruction of justice. Bright also received citations for no insurance and improper lane use. Bright was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.
On Sept. 18 at approximately 9:18 p.m. deputies performed a traffic stop near the intersection of Blackhawk Road and Illinois Route 64. After investigation, deputies placed Adam Swanson, 50, of Byron under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Swanson was additionally issued citations for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol. Swanson was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.
On Sept. 18 at 5:01 a.m. deputies were dispatched to 8163 South Grist Mill Rd. in reference to a single-vehicle accident. After an investigation, deputies learned Cherly Chojnacki, 50, of Mt. Morris, failed to negotiate a curve and drove her 2004 Honda into the westbound ditch and struck a tree head-on. Chojnacki was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital for minor injuries she suffered due to the crash. Deputies were assisted on scene by Rochelle Fire, Flagg Center Fire and Oregon Fire.
