Oregon teen dies after being hit by semi truck

OREGON – An Oregon teen was killed early Saturday, April 14 after he was struck by a semi while walking in the 2600 block of West Pines Road.

Weslee Rice, 17, was hit at about 1:30 a.m., according to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department.  The Oregon High School student was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the semi, Dakota Snyder, 21, of Mount Morris, was taken to KSB Hospital, the Sheriff’s Department said in a release. 

The Oregon School District had counseling available for parents and students on Sunday at the Oregon High School gym.

The accident remains under investigation.
