OTTAWA — The Lady Hubs varsity softball team remained within striking distance of the Ottawa Lady Pirates during Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference action Tuesday afternoon. But a tough fourth inning put Rochelle out of victory’s grasp, with the girls falling by a score of 12-1.

Senior pitcher Jenna Feltes took the mound for the Lady Hubs, holding a talented Ottawa offense to four runs over the first three innings including a scoreless bottom of the third. The game went south for Rochelle in the bottom of the fourth, though, with the Lady Pirates totaling a game-high eight runs to go up 12-0.

The Lady Hubs bounced back with one run in the top of the fifth inning, but it wouldn’t be enough to lift the purple and white over the Lady Pirates on Tuesday. Rochelle ended the contest with six hits including a double by junior Alex Ferrari and singles by senior Christina Payton and junior Faith Roush.

“Their pitcher was good but we had solid at-bats and we didn’t give up,” head coach Lindsay Suess said.

Wednesday’s game against Rockford Guilford was cancelled due to rain, and no reschedule has been made at this time. Rochelle (1-3, 0-1 NIB-12) will instead face Harlem on Thursday before battling Sycamore in more conference play on Friday.

Sophomores

The Lady Hubs sophomore softball team played its first game of the season on Tuesday, falling to the Ottawa Lady Pirates by a score of 11-1.

Becca Bunger and Madison O’Rorke each went 2-for-3 in the game, while Mandi Lamb started on the pitcher’s mound for Rochelle (0-1, 0-1 NIB-12). The girls will face Harlem on Thursday before playing Sycamore on Friday.
