Park board discusses projects

ROCHELLE — The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board continued discussion on its current and upcoming capital projects during its monthly board meeting Monday evening at Rochelle City Hall.
Projects that are complete or are nearing completion include replacement bleachers at Rochelle Little League’s Floyd J. Tilton Park, maintenance of the VFW Park Garage, mulching of local playgrounds and new construction to extend the bike path from West 20th Street to Bebee Drive. The park district is continuing to move forward on future projects such as new bleachers at Helms Park’s football field, preliminary engineering for a possible camping site at Lake Sule and maintenance of restrooms and other park district facilities to meet American Disabilities Association standards.
“We have so many projects to do,” Bunger said. “We’re in catch-up mode… There are a lot of things going on but they’re coming to a close at about the time when maintenance projects are going to be taking off. We have to make sure we keep some balls up in the air.”
The board also continued discussion regarding its 2017-18 budget draft at Monday evening’s meeting. Executive Director Roger Bunger said the budget draft is roughly 90 percent finished, and the draft will include a budget summary, which Bunger said will replace monthly reports.
“We were looking for a way to roll everything up,” Bunger said. “We don’t have all the numbers listed… This isn’t the final document the board will be approving in draft form.”
