STEWARD — Paula F. Barkei, nee Altrichter, 66, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at home. Paula was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 14,1957 to Frank and Christine (Babik) Altrichter. Paula grew up in Westchester, IL, and attended North Central College with a major in accounting and psychology. Paula used those skills as a comptroller at Tunnel Electric for close to 20 years. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bill Barkei. They were married on November 24, 1990 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in West Brooklyn, IL and she relocated to Steward, IL. 

Paula welcomed their son, Andy, with great love and enthusiasm. She volunteered at his school and was his greatest supporter. Paula used her love of people and detail while working for several years at State Farm in Amboy. She was committed to helping people and frequently volunteered her time with church or community organizations. Paula loved the many trips they took to Yellowstone in their camper and often related stories of their camping adventures. Her love of family and friends was always evident by her thoughtful calls, her Hallmark cards and the twinkle in her eye when she looked at you. Paula and her sister, Lynn, enjoyed a very close relationship and had just returned from their annual week long shopping trip together. 

Paula was preceded in death by her parents. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Bill; son, Andy; sister, Lynn Genutis; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, November 22 at 11:00 A.M. at St Patrick's Catholic Church, 244 Kelley Drive, Rochelle, IL with Father Jesus Dominguez officiating.
