ROCHELLE — Members of the Rochelle Kiwanis Golden K spent their Friday in several area locations for the Peanut Day fundraiser, greeting the community and accepting donations. They will also be at Big R, WalMart, Central Bank and in the downtown area again on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Through fundraising, the Golden K sponsors and supports school service clubs and gives scholarships to Rochelle Township High School seniors. The group also donates to many other youth organizations in the area including Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Pegasus Special Riders, Serenity Hospice and sports organizations.
John Gruben is nearing his first full year as a Golden K member and together with Tom McDermott spent a shift outside of Central Bank late Friday morning.
“Being a member of Golden K gives me an opportunity to be a constructive member of the community and that gives me pride,” said Gruben.
The organization also hosts Pancake Day in February and Chili Day, which is scheduled for Nov. 3 at Hicks Hall.
