ROCHELLE —Pete Gardner, 77, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born Nov. 29, 1940, the sixth of nine children of Wilhelm and Dorothy (Whalen) Gardner in Salem, New York. He married Luise Sethmacher on Jan. 7, 1960 in Wurzburg, Germany.
Pete proudly served his country in the United States Army. He met his wife Luise while stationed in Germany. He owned and operated Gardner’s Mini Mart in Mukwonago, Wis., for over 20 years. Pete enjoyed long walks with his wife. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially on the golf course and Sunday dinners.
Pete is survived by his wife, Luise; two sons, Bob (Beth) Gardner and Rick Gardner; four grandchildren, Jenny (J.P.) Walsh, Ben Gardner, Danny Gardner and Erich Berger; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Walsh; four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Pete is preceded in death by his daughter, Traci Gardner; twin brother, Paul Gardner; and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle, with Father Ruben Herrera officiating. Burial will be in Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
Memorials may be made in Pete’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
