Petry ends state term

SPRINGFIELD — Rochelle’s own Eliza Petry recently retired from her year as the Illinois Future Farmers of America vice president. Petry, along with the four other major state officers, hosted the 91st annual state convention in Springfield last week.
The three-day event included recognition and awards to thousands of Illinois FFA members and FFA supporters. In addition, the FFA Band, Choir and other FFA Talent participants performed. Petry’s retiring address reminded the 5,500 in attendance that “everyone is somebody’s somebody.” She also wrote and performed an original song.
Petry is the daughter of Erik Petry and Ellen O’Malley, both of Rochelle, and started in FFA her freshman year while at Rochelle Township High School, under the direction of Donna Page, RTHS ag teacher and FFA advisor. She spent the past year traveling the state, visiting high schools as well as representing FFA in Washington, D.C., Springfield and at various ag-related conventions throughout the state.
She’ll continue her education at the University of Illinois in the fall. She wants to be an agricultural teacher.
