ROCHELLE — The City of Rochelle is moving forward with plans to construct a radium removal plant at Well 11, located near Rochelle Township High School, following recent testing indicating radium levels have nearly doubled.
Adam Lanning, superintendent of water/water reclamation, presented the latest findings of a pilot study to the Utility Advisory Board Wednesday night. The study was completed two weeks ago.
Lanning stressed the well is offline and not pumping into the city’s water system.
Bidding for the $3.4 million project is expected late next month, with construction to being sometime this summer. Construction is required to be completed by February of 2018.
