Pump issue forces closure of Spring Lake pool

Posted

ROCHELLE — A computer drive to one of the new pumps at Spring Lake pool is not working, forcing Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District officials to close the facility until the drive can be repaired or replaced.

The drive stopped working on Saturday morning and since only one pump was running, it was causing inconsistent water flow rates that are below state health standards. The pool did not open over the weekend and will be closed all day on Monday, June 4.

"The water looks good, but we have no choice but to close until both pumps are running again," said superintendent of parks Don Elliott. "We are trying to get a tech out here from Platinum Pool Care as soon as possible to address the problem."

A new pump and filter system was installed earlier this spring and new decking was just replaced in the past month, as the park district board committed more than $400,000 to upgrade the popular Rochelle swimming facility.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the public for your patience," said Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District office and program manager Maureen Stevens.

Elliott said because the water is not flowing properly, the heater cannot be run either until the pump problem is fixed.

"If we can get this fixed, we should be able to heat the water overnight and possibly be able to open the next morning," Elliott said. "But, right now it's our of our control and just frustrating for all of us."
