ROCHELLE — Raymond E. “Sonny” Richardson, 77, longtime Rochelle and DeKalb resident, died suddenly in Kishwaukee Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017. He was born Aug. 15, 1940 in Rochelle, the son of Raymond W. Richardson and Mildred (Catron) Richardson. He married Marcia (Ulven) Richardson on July 30, 1982.
Sonny worked many years at Rochelle Asparagus Company, Caron International and Continental Envelope in Geneva. He enjoyed watching wrestling on TV and was a huge Elvis Presley fan, owning most of Elvis’s records. He was a former member of the Rochelle Moose Lodge and the DeKalb Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia; two children, Vanessa (Greg) Stroh of Rochelle, and Michael (Wendy Shepherd) Richardson of King George, Va.; three Step-children, Mark Shipman of DeKalb, Daniel Shipman of DeKalb, and Christine Dombrowski of Ocala, Fla.; and one sister, Karry (Mike) Pullin of Rochelle.
He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Gerri (John) Hanson, Carolee (Joe) Wilson, Douglas (Amanda) Richardson and Alex Richardson; 15 great-grandchildren, Bradley Shipman, Cristina Dombrowski, Zachary Shipman, Bradley Phillips, Christopher Plock, Kylie Plock, Kelsey Castro, Chyanne Bozek, Anastasia Bozek, David Bozek, Lucian Bozek, Temperance Wilson, Issabella Wilson, Alexia Richardson and Hailey Richardson; and two great-great-grandchildren, Elliot Fletcher and Kayden Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mildred; and two Brothers, Jimmy L. Richardson and Galen H. Richardson.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. with visitation being held from 4 -6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18 at Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home on 704 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. Cremation rites will be accorded after the funeral.
