ROCHELLE — Raymond Lewis Rose passed away peacefully on Nov. 7, 2020. He was born on Dec. 14, 1945 in Belvidere, the son of Claude and Catherine (Hemmens) Rose.
He attended Belvidere High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He moved to Rochelle where he met his future wife, Janice Calhoon-Brown. They were married on Oct. 25, 1968. Ray retired from Owens Corning after 30 years of dedicated employment He was very active in his local VFW Post 3878 and served and volunteered with a smile. Ray was also a professional sawdust maker and spent many hours with his good buddy Dave Lutgens working on their many creations.
He is loved and missed by his children, Dale Brown of Hephizbah, Georgia, Kristina (John) Oleson, of Lindenwood, Timothy (Sandy) Brown, of Rockford, Teresa (Larry) Baker, of Rochelle, and Robert (Chris) Rose, of Rochelle. Ray had 10 grandchildren, Jeremy, Raymond and Courtney Brown, Derek Oleson, Angel Weyhrauch, Adam Baker, Rose Whitley, Krystal Lang, Miranda and Jacob Rose; and eight great-grandchildren, Ianna, Alexie, Everyeil, Briella, Samantha, Gianna, James and Thea.
He will also be missed by his sisters, Marie Shook, Margaret (Joe) Morris, Harriet Rands (Doug Skilling) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He will also be greatly missed by his special friend and companion, Karen Court and her daughter, Becky Court.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; son, Jeffery Brown; grandson, Nicholas Oleson; great-granddaughter, Rosie Quantanilla; brother, Ralph Rose; sister, Jeanette Rolling-Saunders; brother-in-laws, Virgil Shook and Harold Rands; and daughter-in-law, Linda Brown.
Services are yet to be decided. A memorial has been established.
