Reuben ‘Pete’ Lee Capes

ROCHELLE — Reuben “Pete” Lee Capes, 87, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. Pete was born on June 20, 1935 to Lorenzo G. and Leona “Mabel” (Shelton) Capes in Rochelle. On April 9, 1955, he married Lillie Mae Wilson in Rochelle. After high school, he served with the United States Army in 1958. Pete enjoyed hunting, family get togethers and playing games with family and friends.
Pete is survived by his two daughters: Rhonda (Pete) O’Rorke of Amboy and Christina Warner of Rochelle; six siblings: Leon Capes of Oregon, Lorenzo Capes of Rockford, Duane Capes of Rochelle, Norma Atkinson of Ashton, Leona Tapp of Lindenwood and Judy Zarr of Bethalto, Illinois; five grandchildren: Brandi (Pat) McBride, Peter O’Rorke, Amanda O’Rorke, Katie (Michael) O’Rorke and Jeffrey (Jessica) Warner and seven great grandchildren: Liam, Kieran, Esam, William, Leylani, Lauryn and Olivia.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie on Feb. 8, 2018; four brothers: Orville, Lawrence, Ray and Emmett Capes and sister, Laura Swick.
Private family services. Burial is at Trinity Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Pete’s memory to Serenity Hospice and Home and Tails Humane Society.
