EL PASO, Texas — Richard Brent “R.B.” Vaupel, Jr., 58, of El Paso, Texas, formerly of Rochelle, passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at his home. R.B. was born May 9, 1960, in DeKalb to Richard Brent Vaupel, Sr. and Sharon Vaupel Hernandez. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1973 at the age of 13.
He worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the
Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago and retired from the Federal Corrections Institution at La Tuna, Texas.
R.B. is survived by his mother, Sharon Hernandez of Illinois; his sisters, Jo Ellen Vaupel of Ariz., Patricia (Mike Pisto) Vaupel of Illinois, Cheri Vaupel of Texas, Missy (Michael) Woolsey of Illinois, and Kathlina (Todd) Johnson of Illinois; his nieces and nephews, Brandi Potter, Cole (Amanda) Rains, Alexandra (Robert) Heller, Kelsey Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Trey Woolsey, Brynn Johnson, and Elle Johnson; and his grand-niece, Laila Potter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Vaupel, Sr.; his grandparents, Marian and Francis Vaupel, Lester Friend and Audrey Wayne; and his great-grandmother, Blanche Cooper
Hayes.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5560 S. Wildflower Dr., Rochelle.
