Rochelle — The residential application for utility assistance is now available at RMU.
“Our team recognized the hardships endured by those most in need in our community and actively pursued establishing a program to assist,” said city manager Jeff Fiegenschuh.
The RMU Residential Utility Assistance Program will provide monetary assistance for qualifying RMU residential utility customers in the amount of $300/household each calendar year. The program will be funded with the sale of renewable energy credits from the previous year. Approximately 258 households can receive assistance in 2019 before funds are exhausted.
The financial assistance is based on income. The combined gross income for all adults permanently living at the residence must be at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines for the previous 30 days.
“The RMU assistance program is just another example of how a locally owned utility benefits its customers,” said Electric Superintendent Jason Bird.
