KINGS — Robert George Van Hise, 93, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 at the Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon with his family at his side. He was born on April 23, 1924 in Rochelle, the son of George and Beatrice (Tilton) Van Hise.
Bob Served during WWII in the U.S. Army. He married Marguerite Elizabeth Mittan on Dec. 19, 1948 in Rochelle; she preceded him on May 25, 2013.
He was also preceded by his daughter, Kathleen LaRae Van Hise; three brothers, Francis, Walter and Dean Van Hise; four sisters, Ella Cavanna, Ethel Voss, Lois Van Hise and Mildred Trowbridge.
Bob loved being a farmer. He also worked as a custodian at the Waterman High School then the Steward School and cared for the Washington Grove Cemetery. Along with his wife, he was an active member of the Family Campers & Hikers, Good Sams Club of Sterling, the Silver Sams, and the Gulf Stream Club.
He is survived by his three children, Terry (Teresa) Van Hise of Machesney Park, Ronald Van Hise of Markesan, Wis., and Pamela (Robert) Janssen of Minonk; eight grandchildren, Matt Van Hise, Ryan (Dee Dee) Van Hise, Jason (Kate) Van Hise, Cami (Jake) Vande Berg, Jennifer (Matt) McConnell, Ben Janssen, Kim (Brandon) Swartz and Brian Janssen; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah (Louis) Reynolds of Arizona, and Ann (John) Bennett of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Rogula officiating. Burial will be at the Lawnridge Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Serenity Hospice and Home.
