Over 100 cross country runners from five different high schools gathered at Skare Park on a hot and sunny Thursday afternoon to battle for the “Mud Cup” in the annual Rochelle Invitational hosted by the Hubs and Lady Hubs.

Five RTHS runners earn top-10 finishes at Skare Park

ROCHELLE — Over 100 cross country runners from five different high schools gathered at Skare Park on a hot and sunny Thursday afternoon to battle for the “Mud Cup” in the annual Rochelle Invitational hosted by the Hubs and Lady Hubs.

Junior Katherine Bakken dominated the field and continued her strong start to the 2017 season, finishing first out of 59 girls in the 3-mile race with a time of 21:06.91. Seniors Morgan Baker and Claire Plapp recorded top-10 finishes in their final home meet as Lady Hub competitors, with Baker placing fifth (22:56.76) and Plapp taking sixth (23:01.54).

Junior Anne Hickey took ninth with a time of 23:43.22 to help the Rochelle girls finish second out of five teams with 45 points. Senior Ashley Ramos (24th in 26:49.95), junior Abby Wagner (27th in 27:05.57) and senior Rhylie Erdman (28th in 27:19.46) also turned in solid performances for the Lady Hubs.

The Rochelle boys placed third out of four teams, with sophomore Santi Cordoba finishing 10th out of 70 runners on the 3-mile course with a time of 19:30.32. Sophomores Uzziel Zarate (20th in 21:08.72), Diego Escobar (22nd in 21:09.82), Tucker Louis (24th in 21:24.66) and Evan Horner (28th in 21:50.24) rounded out the top five Hub competitors on Thursday.
