MAPLE PARK — The Rochelle cross country team traveled to Kaneland High School on Monday for the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Meet, with the Lady Hubs varsity team finishing seventh out of 10 schools and the Hubs fresh-soph team placing eighth overall.
Junior Katherine Bakken led the girls on Monday, clocking in at 20:13.6 to place 19th out of 68 runners. Senior Hannah Cruz finished 29th with a time of 20:57.8, while senior Claire Plapp took 31st with a time of 21:05.5.
Three more Rochelle girls recorded top-50 finishes, with sophomore Britney Baez taking 45th (22:03.1) and senior Morgan Baker landing in 47th (22:07.5). Junior Anne Hickey placed 50th with a time of 22:21.6, and junior Abby Wagner finished 65th (25:41.1) to round out the Lady Hubs varsity team.
Sophomore Santi Cordoba led the Hubs in the fresh-soph race, placing 23rd with a time of 18:26.6. Sophomore Uzziel Zarate placed 29th (18:43.8), while sophomores Tucker Louis (43rd in 19:51.0) and Ben Hickey (48th in 20:23.6) each landed top-50 spots on Monday. Sophomore Evan Horner finished 50th with a time of 20:46.8.
The Rochelle cross country program will compete in the IHSA Class 2A Regional in Belvidere on Saturday, Oct. 21. The girls will begin at 10 a.m., while the boys will run at 11 a.m. Qualifying regional teams will advance to the IHSA Class 2A Sectional in Maple Park on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10 and 11 a.m.
