STERLING — The Hubs and Lady Hubs cross country teams each earned a top-10 team finish at the Rock River Run this past Saturday, with the varsity girls placing ninth out of 15 teams and the fresh-soph boys finishing eighth out of 13 teams.
Sophomore Santi Cordoba led Rochelle in the 2-mile fresh-soph boys race, placing 24th out of 110 runners with a time of 11:48.9 while sophomore Uzziel Zarate crossed the finish line five spots behind in 29th with a time of 11:56.0. Sophomore Tucker Louis recorded Rochelle’s third top-50 individual finish, taking 42nd with a time of 12:24.0.
Sophomore Diego Escobar landed in 51st (12:31.1), and sophomores Ben Hickey and Evan Horner finished one after the other, with Hickey placing 68th (12:56.0) and Horner earning 69th (13:01.6).
Junior Katherine Bakken led the girls team on Saturday, placing 16th out of 120 varsity runners with a time of 19:24.1 in the 3-mile event. Senior Morgan Baker finished 46th with a time of 21:11.4, while junior Anne Hickey (21:45.1) landed in 59th place. Senior Hannah Cruz finished one spot behind Hickey, taking 60th with a time of 21:45.2.
Sophomore Britney Baez (71st in 22:43.5) and senior Rhylie Erdman (96th in 23:52.3) each recorded top-100 spots, while junior Abby Wagner and freshman Heidi Cruz (111th and 112th respectively) crossed the finish line with times of 24:56.4 and 25:02.0. Senior Ashley Ramos clocked in at 25:24.1 to finish 117th.
