DEKALB — A Rochelle man is being held in DeKalb County Jail on three counts of aggravated driving under the influence after he was involved in an accident early Sunday morning that resulted in the death of a DeKalb man.
According to police, shortly after midnight on May 14, Daniel Chavez, 25, Rochelle, was driving a 2006 Jeep Laredo eastbound on IL Route 38 just east of Nelson Road when he crossed over the center lane into the westbound lane of traffic and struck a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by Sai Adluru, 23, DeKalb.
Adluru was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger Charishma Dudde, 23, DeKalb, was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital and later airlifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital for severe injuries. Police stated on Monday afternoon that Dudde’s condition was listed as stable, but he is expected to undergo surgery for his injuries.
Chavez and his passenger, Orlando Hernandez, 25, of Cicero, both sustained serious injuries and were transported to KCH.
Chavez was later arrested and charged with DUI, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Police say that all four occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
