ROCHELLE — Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson along with Jeff Fiegenshuh, City Manager, and several staff members attended the Illinois Bicentennial Flag Raising midday Monday just outside of City Hall.
Olson said a word of thanks and recited the resolution council members passed and approved on Nov. 13.
Aug. 26, 2018 is the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Illinois Constitution as well as the 200th anniversary of admission of the state into the Union on Dec. 3, 2018.
Rochelle, along with the nearly 1,300 cities, villages, and towns in Illinois are conducting a flag raising ceremony to kick-off the yearlong celebration of the state’s bicentennial.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved that the City of Rochelle endorses the efforts of the Illinois Bicentennial Commission in promoting, planning, and executing historic, educational, celebratory, and cultural initiatives and further resolves to recognize and celebrate the bicentennial of the state of Illinois,” Olson said.
