ROCHELLE — Each year since 2017, The Moose at each lodge in the fraternity has an obligation to recognize a Valued Veteran of the Year.
This award is given to a member of The Moose who, after their discharge from U.S. military service, continues serving their local community and The Moose by volunteering. They are then honored at the annual Valued Veteran banquet in November.
This year, the Rochelle Moose honored Jim Mecklenburg for 2020 and Russ Lechner for 2021. Chuck Roberts of Roberts Armory in Rochelle was the guest speaker and his presentation on the Military Honor Guard was well-received by veterans and their guests. Roberts presented both veterans with their award.
