ROCHELLE — A Rochelle woman charged with intentionally poisoning neighborhood cats was sentenced to 18 months of reporting court supervision Thursday in Ogle County court.
Barbara Hardcastle, 58, Rochelle, was charged in December of 2016 with three counts of unlawful poisoning of an animal, a Class A misdemeanor. The offenses occurred in October and November, and three pet cats died as a result.
Ogle County State’s Attorney Eric Morrow said Hardcastle pled guilty to one count.
“The victims did have an opportunity to read statements to the court prior to sentencing,” Morrow added.
Honorable Judge Redington also ordered Hardcastle to perform 100 hours of public service at a facility dedicated to animals, along with $250 in court costs, $270 supervision fee, and restitution in the amount of $223.56.
