STEWARD — Ronald G. Cardott, 81, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 in Dixon. Ron was born on May 15, 1936 to Edward and Irene (Austin) Cardott at home in Flagg Township. 
He married Beverly J. Hays on July 22, 1956 in Steward; she preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2011. 
Ron owned and operated R & G Trucking with his son for many years and was the road commissioner in Alto Township. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Steward Fire Department.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Roxy Hill and Rose Nordeck. 
Ron is survived by his children, Galen (Chris) Cardott of Steward, and Dawn (Brian) Johnson of Rochelle; five brothers, Russell (Shirley) Cardott of Rimby, Alberta Canada, Roy Cardott of Rochelle, Ralph Cardott of Oregon, Richard Cardott of Cordova, and Dr. Randel (Patricia) Cardott of Moline; three grandchildren, Ben (Jacque) Johnson, Emily (Anthony) Reed and Rachel Cardott; three step-grandchildren, Alexander, Julia and Logan Frye; and three great-grandchildren, Norah and Louis Reed and Walter Johnson.
The visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 30 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. The funeral will follow at noon with Pastor Megan Thompson officiating. Private burial will be at Steward Cemetery following cremation rites.
